Jelly Bean Chicks

These cute little chicks were made from left over Valentines Day sticky foam heart bought in the big buckets from Wal-Mart after Valentines Day for about .75 cents for 500 foam stickers.

Instructions

large pom-poms
2" foam sticker hearts
1" foam sticker hearts
twist tie sandwich bags
1 sheet of orange felt
wiggle eyes (your choice of size)
pipe cleaners
hot glue and glue gun
1/4 cup measuring cup
wire cutters
scissors
pencil
jelly beans or m&m's

1.  Cut the enough pipe cleaners in half for the number you want to make
2.  take the small 1" foam hearts and cut in half
3.  measure out 1/4C. of jelly beans and place in the sandwich bag and shake to the corner of the bag
4,  twist the bag and wrap the pipe cleaner near the jelly beans and twist closed
5.  cut the sandwich bag about a 1/2" above the pipe cleaner
6.  pull the backing off the 2" foam sticker and position the bag of jelly beans on the heart
7.  make sure to leave the pipe cleaner opening side up
8.  then take the large pop-pom and put hot glue in a circle on the bottom of the pom-pom
9.  now you can stick the little half hearts on the side where the rounded part is toward the back
10.  cut a strip off the orange felt about a 1/2" wide, and cut triangles from the felt
11.  fold the triangle in half  and run a small bead of hot glue along the "V" of the triangle
12.  quickly place it to the pom-pom where the little beak goes and hold in place for a few seconds
13.  glue the little eyes in place you got them made

I have seen them made with feathers in place of the half of a heart, but I couldn't find the little yellow feathers for the wings...  I guess I was too late to get them since it is almost Easter.  So I had tons of the little hearts and said hey this will work,  Hope your kiddo's like them!

Snowman Cans

Last year I made these for my grandson's class instead of stockings. The class so loved them, but think the parents were more surprised that they had cans instead of stockings.

Instructions:

Gallon size cans (collected from the school cafeteria)
Lots of spray paint (white)
Black Delta or Folk Art paint
White Delta or Folk Art paint
Pale Pink Delta or Folk Art paint
1 yard of red fleece
Needle and thread
Small amount of stuffing
Hammer and Nail or a drill
Good wire or heave twine
Hot glue gun and glue sticks

1.   Wash and remove labels from the cans
2.    Now figure where to put the holes for the wire or twine, and punch or drill the holes.
3.    Now spray paint the cans.  This will take 2 coats to cover.
4.    Now draw the faces and paint the cans.  Try and give them a personality.
5.     Take the fleece and and cut 10" circles and and cut strips 15"x2".
6.    Thread the needle and on the circles run a basting stitch a 1/4" from the edge all the way around the circle.
7.    Take a small amount of stuffing and and place in the center of the circle and pull the gathering stitch closed.
8.    Then sew the strips up the long side, but leave one inch open before starting and ending the stitch and turn inside out.
9.    Now that you have the ear muffs made and the handles made, cut the twine or wire and run through the fleece handle.
10.    Put the twine through the hole and tie in place.  You will take the one inch tab left on the fleece handle and glue down over the outside of the can over the hole.  Do this on both sides.
11.    Now put hot glue all over the gathered side of the muffs you made and glue in place.
12.    Sounds like it is hard but it goes really fast.  Have fun and hope you let me know how you did on yours.
13.    These can be Easter bunnies if you use the craft foam and make ears instead of ear muffs.

Terra Cotta Candy Dish

Today, February 20, 2012, I started this post.  I have always loved crafting.  Between sewing, painting, and crafting with kids my heart is always filled with joy that comes from God's touch and letting me be able to teach others how to have fun.  That is what I hope I can do here.  This is a learning process for me so bare with me as I venture on this new path of learning a new tech venture.  I will hopefully be able to share many things with you and my friends.

This is one of the last things my daughter and I made.

Instructions

2 Terra cotta pots
4 pot bases
2 medium size Betta fish bowls
2 wooden knobs or pots
1/8" thin sticky foam
E-6000 glue

1.    Fist paint the pots the color you wish.
2.    Then glue the pat base to the pots bottom.
3.    Then glue the wooden knob to the other pot base.
4.    Once theses parts have dried it is time to glue the Betta bowl to the pot base.
5.    Take the lid and glue or stick the 1/8" foam to the inside.  This way the lid won't move.

The total cost is less than $5.00.  This makes a great teachers gift.  Let me know how yours turns out.
